Game Recap:
The Dreadsox continued their solid playing through the second game of their double header vs Overlake Hospital, winning 25-14. Overlake had runners on first and second with one out in the first inning, but the Dreads were able to get the last two outs without a run scoring. The Dreads then got 3 runs during their turn at bat, off of a 2-out home run by CF Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira. The Dreadsox again held Overlake scoreless in the top of the 2nd inning, as the third out came with the bases loaded. Overlake’s defense improved during the second game, as they fielded infield grounders much more effeciently, and held the Dreadsox to one run in the bottom of the 2nd. Then Overlake’s bats began to improve, as they got seven hits and 6 runs in the top of the third for a 6-4 lead. The Dreadsox quickly regained the lead, collecting a dazzling 10 base hits and a couple of walks to score 9 runs. Again, the Dreads defense held fast, allowing only one run to score, and retiring the side with runners on first and second. It turned out that the hot 3rd inning was just a warm-up for the Dreadsox, though. In the 4th inning, the Dreads salted the field with 12 base hits, a walk, and a homerun. All but one of the 13 Dreadsox players made it on base in the inning with either a hit or a walk, as they piled up 12 more runs. Again, Overlake had a respectable last at-bat, collecting 7 runs in the top of the 5th inning, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the enforcement of the 10-run mercy rule. Again, every Dreadsox player crossed home plate at least one time in the game.
Defensive Play of the Game:
Playing in his first games of the season, due to being a slave of the vehicular electronics industry, infielder Chris “Bootch” Burch played a solid defensive game... with NO errors! During his inning at shortstop, he made a nice snag of a line drive to his right, and made another nice play on a ground ball that he flipped to 2B “Shaggy” Sheri Smith for the force on the runner coming from first.
Offensive Play of the Game:
The entire Dreadsox team batted extremely well. They collected base hit after base hit, and barely used their power game. Of their 26 hits, only 3 went for extra bases — a double by RF Philip “Phlipper” Hallstrom, and two 3 RBI home runs by Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira. The majority of the rest of the hits were nice, solid base hits into the gaps.
Laugh of the Game:
Although he played extremely well in his first games of the season (not only defensively, but also going 6-for-6 on the day), infielder Chris “Bootch” Burch also had an amusing lapse of concentration. With the bases loaded and nobody out in Overlake’s third inning, a shot was hit to the right-center gap. CF Jay “J-Bang” Matsudaira fielded the ball on a hop and a roll, and fired to shortstop Kurt “Lil’ Hurt” Hayashida. With the runner trying to go from first to third, the Lil’ Hurt turned to relay to Bootch at third base. Problem was, Bootch was standing about 10 feet off the bag, watching as the rather slow runner made her way safely to the bag. J-Bang (ever the smart-ass), noticing that Bootch had a great view of the play, yelled from the outfield, “Hey Bootch... how much did you pay for that seat?!”
